JTC 326 Reflection

  • Learned: How to make a podcast → I have already applied this skill in another class for a final project, and feel that that go around was even better than the first. I can see myself continuing to use this skill as it is now something I can add to a resume. I really enjoyed learning this skill so I can see myself getting a podcast editing job or internship in the future.
  • Improved Upon: Blogging → In this course I have taken my blogging skills from simple conversational writing to understanding how to build differently formatted pieces that increase audience engagement. I especially enjoyed the Q&A style piece and would love to put this into practice for a post on my health blog! In the next six years, I think I will use this style of writing frequently and it will be critical that I understand different ways of conveying information, such as a listicle, thought piece, and Q&A. I could see myself having a side hustle blog in the future and will definitely be using these different styles.
  • Improved Upon: Website Building → The final website was something that I ended up finishing much earlier than I expected because I enjoyed making it so much. I will absolutely use this skill within the next six months because I am getting set up with some lessons to learn how to use WordPress to improve further upon these skills. In the next six years, I hope to be starting a company of my own so I will use these skills to make a killer, professional website.
  • Favorite Assignment: Transmedia Final Website: I loved this project because I enjoyed learning all of the different types of medium back to back. I found that this project helped me better understand what types of media I enjoy most. I now know that I really like creating podcasts, websites, and of course, writing. I also like this project because it gave me something tangible that I can show employers.
  • Least Favorite Assignment: Given the circumstances COVID-19 has forced us into, I did not think I got as much out of the listicle and social video as I would have liked. My beat was sustainable restaurants in Fort Collins which was difficult because most restaurants don’t want to be interviewed for a school project, let alone in a pandemic. This made it hard to get good quotes for the listicle and limited my options of what I could do, and the materials I could use for the social video.
